About

June is the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Christian tradition of marking the month of June as the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and flying the Sacred Heart flag goes back over 400 years.

The Catholic parish of St Mary Magdalen’s, East Hill is continuing this tradition and celebration in Wandsworth.

The inaugural procession took place on 14 June 2025, walking from St Mary Magdalen parish to and around Wandsworth Town Hall, and then returning to the parish. Hymns were sung during the procession and at the Town Hall there were readings and prayers.

In light of the overwhelming response to continuing the procession, it will now be an annual event.

Feast of the Sacred Heart and Sacred Heart Procession 2026

On Friday 12th June, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a High TLM took place at the Oratory of St. Mary Magdalen, East Hill Wandsworth. It was then followed by the Sacred Heart Procession from St Mary Magdalen Church to Wandsworth Town Hall where the borough was re-consecrated to the Sacred Heart by Rev. Canon Martin Edwards KHS. See below for a video from the Mass and Procession.

St Thérèse of Lisieux prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O my God! I offer Thee all my actions of this day for the intentions and for the glory of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I desire to sanctify every beat of my heart, my every thought, my simplest works, by uniting them to its infinite merits; and I wish to make reparation for my sins by casting them into the furnace of its Merciful Love.

O my God! I ask of Thee for myself and for those whom I hold dear, the grace to fulfil perfectly Thy Holy Will, to accept for love of Thee the joys and sorrows of this passing life, so that we may one day be united together in heaven for all Eternity.

Amen
